WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26: Pizza House sliced up the competition to take the first ever Bermuda Sun Riders Cup.
The year long competition sponsored by the Sun is intended to give recognition to the companies that help support the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club.
Shannon Caisey, captain of the Pizza House team and president of the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club, said it felt “awesome to be the inaugural winner of the Bermuda Sun Riders Cup. It’s a really terrific feeling.
“We were kind of in the back marker for the majority of the season with the Riders Cup.
“I wasn’t paying too much attention to the points standing until the papers said we had taken over first place.
“I then thought ‘We can make this thing happen.’
“This is an accomplishment for the team and the effort we’ve put in.”
Caisey said the consistency was the difference maker in the Pizza House team making up the ground and holding onto first.
Strong
“The guys have been training really hard for the whole season, it was just a matter of getting in some consistent rides and some consistent finishes to bring the championship home.
“The other teams have some really good riders too — Team Tuned, 911 — you can’t put them down or discount them because they’ll creep up out of the woodwork and take you by surprise because they can run very strong.”
He said down the stretch the Pizza House team did not want to throw the lead away and had to stay focused. Caisey said: We wanted to end the season the way we started it — we started strong and we wanted to finish strong.
Caisey praised his sponsorship team.
Pizza House was the lead sponsor but the riders also saw support from D-Crazy Rentals, Tripple D Plumbing, Tools & Equipment, International Barber & Salon and BSP.
“They were all supportive of us and backed us 110 per cent the whole season.”
Sunday also saw the BMRC honour past champions Marvin ‘Skinny’ Robinson, Kyle Pimental and Toriano ‘The Animal’ Wilson.
“This was a great day. We honoured all three families who lost a loved one. We gave them a cedar tree so they can plant it and watch it grow and nurture it just like when we have children in the club and watch them grow, develop and mature in the sport.
“Cedar trees are like a natural treasure for Bermuda. It was well-supported and well-attended and I believe the families feel the love we give them.”
This Sunday will be a fundraiser for St. John’s Ambulance. See Friday’s Bermuda Sun and bermudasun.bm for more details.
