Improved along the way
It was a learning experience for Jesse and Zander Kirkland. In their first eight races, they had four Did Not Finishes to go along with a 19th, 18th, 12th and 6th. Things turned around and they had three top 10 finishes, including a second. *Photo by Matthew Dickens/onEdition Photography
Record smasher
Roy Burch had the swim of his life in the Olympics, calling it 'amazing'. Burch set a new Bermuda national record in the 50m free, clocking 22:47. He won his heat, the fourth of eight, but failed to advance to semi-finals at the Olympics. He did finish 24th overall. His Facebook page was flooded with congratulations on his fantastic performance. Burch said on his Facebook page: "I want to thank everyone for all the support. It was absolutely amazing. Can't describe the feeling. So close to getting a second swim but it's hard to do better than your best." The swimmer hinted he may mount a campaign for a third Olympics when he posted "Rio?", the site for the 2016 Olympics. *Photo by Ben Smith
Heartbreak
Flora Duffy gamely finishes the women's triathlon after a bike crash ruined any chance of a top finish for her. Duffy's bike slid out while making a left-hand turn on a corner that took out several other top competitors. She got back up on her bike but the accident had bent her front wheel. Duffy fixed that and went on to finish 45th. *Photo by Andrew Dobson
So close
Tyrone Smith came the closest of any Bermudians in winning a medal. Smith qualified for the long jump final with a season best 7.97 metres. His first jump was 7.70 metres and he fouled on his second. His third jump was past the 8.16 metre mark posted by Michael Watt of Australia, which would have been good enough to win the silver medal had Smith not fouled. He has already said he plans on qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics and at the 2017 World Championships before hanging up his cleats. *AFP photo/Franck Fife
Good performance
Jillian Terceira and her horse Bernadien Van Westuur made it out of the first qualifying round with just a one point time penalty in eventing. In the next qualifying round they knocked down two fences and received eight penalty points. The cut off to advance to the third round was eight points, with Terceira missing by just one point. *Photo by Hendik Frenzel
Diving in

He fell back on the run a bit but still finished in a very respectable 34th place. Seen above is the start of the swim. *Photo by Adrienne Smith
Giving her best
Long jumper Arantxa King almost equalled Tyrone Smith’s feat of making the final. King ripped off a leap of 6.40 metres on her first jump, which tied her for 12th spot with Veronika Shutkova from Belarus. Officials then went to the two jumpers next best leap. King posted a 6.20 to Shutkova's 6.21, with the Bermudian missing the final by just one centimetre. *AFP photo/Adrian Dennis
