FRIDAY, JUNE 1: Bermuda Pest Control left little room for doubt as the best team in softball.

They swept the A Division playoffs against favoured Docksiders Tuff Dogs and did it in convincing fashion Wednesday night with an 18 to 3 mercy killing.

Pest Control’s leadoff hitter Johnny Ray (4-4, 7 RBI) got things started with a first inning single as the team plated three runs to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Tuff Dogs managed a run in reply as Ryon Outerbridge (3-3) scored after doubling.

Ray was at the centre of action in the second inning for Pest Control when he jacked a three run homer.

After holding Tuff Dogs to one hit the next inning, Pest Control then drove the stake in, scoring 10 runs with Ray again hitting another three-run homer. Cleanup hitter Richard Madeiros (4-4) got the inning started and came around to score on a Jason Pethick (2-3) single.

Tuff Dogs managed two runs in the fifth on an Outerbridge homer, but were put out of their misery when Madeiros hit a solo shot to bring the mercy rule into effect.

B Division

Top seed YouKnowDat came back from an 11 run deficit to beat Rosa’s Banditos to take the B Division champions three games to one.

Captain Steven Simons (5-5) hit a homer to give YouKnowDat an opening 1-0 lead before Rosa’s scored three in the first and six in the second to jump out on top.

Les Dziwenka (3-5) hit a two run homer in the second for Rosa’s while Al Busby (3-4) launched a three run shot in the third to help spot the Banditos a double digit lead.

The wheels starting coming off the cart for Rosa’s in the fourth when Simons opened with a bloop single along the right field line. A series of well-placed hit and a Justin Brookes (2-4) homer saw YouKnowDat trail by six.

Four more runs in the fifth by Dat and a Busby homer for Rosa’s had the lead shrink to two but the momentum had shifted.

Kenrick Richardson’s (4-5) three run homer in the sixth gave Dat the lead. Two more runs in the seventh were just icing on the cake for the winners.

C Division

On Tuesday, BNY Mellon Hedgehogs evened it series with Scared Hitless at one a piece with a 21 to 14 triumph.

Hitless led this game 6 to 3 after two frames thanks in part to a three run homer by Levarr Basett.

BNY took control in the third as Dave Wallace (3-4) hit a grand slam as the Hedgehogs plated six runs.

They scored four in the fifth, but the game was up for grabs heading into the seventh with Hitless clinging to a one-run advantage.

An eight run inning sealed the deal for BNY as leadoff man Jeff Walker (5-6) had two hits. Troy Pitcher (3-5) was also solid for the winners.

Shannon Rose (3-3) and Maceo Wall (3-4) batted well in the loss for Hitless.

Women’s Division

Flanagan’s G-Shocks took a 2-1 game lead in their series with Atlantic Skylights with a 15 to 8 victory at Micheal Preece Softball Stadium Tuesday night.

Carla Zuill (3-4) hit her second homer of the series when she blasted one out of the park in the first inning. Skylights plated three runs of their own to keep pace as Ashley Borges (2-4) doubles home two runs.

From then on out it was the G-Shocks game  with Skylights picking up five consolation runs in the last two innings to make the score look respectable.

Shortstop Tiffany Swan had a big night for the victors as she went 3-4 with two triples and four RBI. Teammate Tache King was also 3-4 and knocked home two runs.

Janice Bucci was 4-4 as the cleanup hitter for Skylights while Rachelle Hendrickson was 2-4 with 2 RBI.
