Perozzi title defence set
Harris, currently ranked eighth in the world, will take on Perozzi at Cedar Bridge Academy on February 18 in the first world title fight ever to be held on the island.
The 32-year-old Perozzi became Bermuda's first ever world champion when she battered Scroller Carrington to claim the title in September.
She has been working with promoters locally to try and arrange a title defence for the past few months with a number of opponents mentioned as possible contenders.
But the Bermuda Sun understands that Harris was inked in to the fight-card this week and that the North American Boxing Council has authorized the bout as a title fight.
Harris has more experience than Perozzi having fought ten professional bouts to the champions' five.
Her record of three wins and seven defeats is not great on paper but she has come up against some of the most formidable opponents in female boxing and not been outclassed.
The 37-year old fought five times last year and it is believed that she will provide a tough test for Perozzi for her first championship defence.
Perozzi turned down a request to fight for the WIBCtitle in Trinidad against Carrington because she had nothing to prove against an opponent she beat so badly. Perozzi will warm up for the fight by taking part in the Bermuda half-marathon as part of International Race Weekend on Sunday.
Meanwhile any boxers who want to fight on the under-card for the event should call 236-3748.[[In-content Ad]]
