Perozzi title date moves again
Perozzi, the North American Boxing Council middleweight champion, has been cleared by the World Boxing Association to fight for their vacant title.
When Trinidadian promoter Boxu Potts first touted the idea it was going to be a late January, early February clash. Then it was looking to be late February before a March 1 date was bandied about.
But now Potts says the fight will most likely be in April due to the clash with Teacher's Fight Night scheduled for March 10 at the Number one Shed.
"I don't want to clash with that show," Potts said. "It would be suicide trying to do two shows a week apart."
Some of the problem is that there would be difficulty in getting enough local boxers to fill out the undercards on both nights.
He said trying to book the fights for early to mid-February would be "too close" to promote successfully and it would have to be after Teacher's Fight Night.
Potts said he wanted to do this to help honour Perozzi.
"I have given Bermuda its first world female champion, but promoting her in Trinidad, I want to give another honour to Bermuda by giving her a shot at the WBA title."
A Giselle Salandy and Yvonne Reis are scheduled to be the other highlight fight on the Perozzi undercard. Reis was the World Boxing Association's middleweight champion, but was tripped of her title on December 10 by the WBA after she lost a fight and is now the number two ranked fighter in the division.
Salandy holds seven titles, including the WBA and WBC junior middleweight belts. The fight with Reis is part of a plan to build her up for a Super Middleweight title shot against Laila Ali. n[[In-content Ad]]
