Perozzi: I don’t plan to disappoint
Perozzi, who is still recovering from a bout of flu, is training every day at the Police Gym as she bids to make the weight for Saturday’s much anticipated NABC middlewieght bout against Martha ‘The Sexy Mex’ Deitchman.
The bout headlines a 10-match card at CedarBridge Academy.
Perozzi still believes she needs a couple of days of virtual fasting and some serious running to lose the final few pounds
Her coach Quinton Mallory has returned from training in Florida to work with her in the final few days before the fight and to be in her corner on Saturday.
He said: “She’s getting there slowly. Right now she's about 75 per cent, just over. When she gets in the ring and she has to prove herself, she’ll be alright.
“Everyone I've spoken to says they are coming to support — they are all in her corner. This should be the biggest crowd for a boxing match in Bermuda.”
Perozzi said she welcomed the support she was receiving on the streets, but felt the expectations were now higher than ever.
“This is very different to the Carrington fight (she beat Scroller Carrington in Trinidad to win the belt last year). People have big expectations for this one.
“I’ve never fought more than four rounds in Bermuda so this will be a big occasion.”
Perozzi will once again count on her superior power to get her through and is going for the knockout.
“There is no way I am losing this fight. That is not going to happen. The only thing that could stand in my way is if she is fitter than I am.
“She has had more fights and I have had to curtail my training a bit. I’ve been sparring eight to 10 rounds, but fighting is different.
“I’m not going to give it all up in the first few rounds because you never know how long it will go.
“I feel her power is not going to be a match for mine and if I see an opportunity to go for a knockout I'm going to go for it — even more than I did against Carrington. That's the only way to be sure of victory.”
Perozzi will be back on the road running and continuing to train in the gym over the next few days, dieting on juice, fruit, vegetables and cereal as she bids to hit the scales at 160lbs for Saturday’s weigh-in.[[In-content Ad]]
