Perozzi: Fight won't go the distance
FRIDAY, MAR. 9: Boxing champ Teresa Perozzi says she feels “relaxed and very confident” as she makes her final preparations for this weekend’s showdown fight with April Ward.
Perozzi believes she is in the shape of her life and has more than enough experience and power to deal with whatever the American has to throw at her.
She told the Bermuda Sun: “I feel great and the training has gone really well.
Relaxed
“This is the first time I have felt really relaxed coming into a fight.
“That’s mainly down to how fit I feel and the shape that I am in.
“The training with Goofy (Jermal Woolridge) has given me a real edge and I feel very confident.
“We understand each other well and it only takes a few words from him and I know what I need to do. Having him in my corner is a big help.
“I know that I can switch my game to take on whatever she has to throw at me.”
Perozzi admits that she does not know much about her opponent, but has no qualms about putting her WBA middleweight belt on the line for this big occasion.
She added: “Some girls you can not find much out about before the fight so you have to adapt and I think I am good at that.
“I want a good fight. I don’t pick someone because I know I am better than them.
“I don’t think this fight will go 10 rounds. I think it will be wrapped up before then.”
Perozzi has family and friends flying in to see her take on Ward at the Berkeley Institute on Saturday.
And she’ll be cheered on by a fiercely patriotic home crowd.
She said: “It’s very exciting to be fighting at home again.
“I have a brother and a couple of aunts who have never seen me fight before so I want to put on a good show for them.
“My mom will be watching too which means a lot. She would much rather be ringside than at the end of the phone finding out the result.
“There are always nerves before an occasion like this, but it’s not a scared kind of feeling.
“It’s more excitement and a determination to get the win.
“I feel really confident and I am really relaxed.
“The training has gone as good as it could have done and I’m very focused for this fight.”
