WEDNESDAY, DEC. 5: A new spa offering affordable and competitive prices has opened on the outskirts of Hamilton.

Owned by Juan and Kwan Smith, Tai Home Spa is located on Laffan Street.

Mrs Smith is a therapist, one of eight employed at the spa who are certified in various kinds of massage and have spent years at top spas around the world.

Treatments include traditional Asian massages such as Thai massage, Balinese massages, herbal facials and body treatments, full range of manicure/pedicure, gel nails and waxing services.

All spa treatments use natural products and special treatments for kids are also offered. Mr Smith said the spa was conceived following the birth their son Tai in 2009.

The couple had a purpose built spa constructed adjacent to their home and was opened later that year.

She said: “Although initially starting with a few treatments per week, it turned into four to five treatments per day and the client base soon grew to over 300 satisfied guests.”

Inspiration

Juan said the inclusion of their child Tai’s name into the spa was a symbol of good luck. He said with a little luck, a good environment to work in and hard work, then “success soon followed to a point where at times the demand was found to be overwhelming — it became evident that in spite of a questionable economy now was the time to expand.

“It was apparent that there were still many people in Bermuda who still have money but not too many avenues to use it.

“With the decline in the economy many people have become more stressed and some are reducing travel but still wish to treat themselves to some pampering of a spa experience, which in turns helps them to relax and feel better about life and themselves.

“It is known that over time tensions build up in the body and a good spa experience is a good way to relieve the stiffness and feel better.”

The Smith’s made a decision to expand in the summer and found the perfect location at Laffan House. The building has high ceilings, wood panel doors and has been renovated to retain its character. Mr Smith said: “The washrooms/locker areas have been beautifully transformed and the most modern equipment has been procured from around the world. It would be a great miss not to experience this new exciting spa.

“There is also a private rear patio for relaxing before or after treatments in the rear with plans to house a sauna and steam room within the next two weeks.”

“We opened our doors to treatments last week offering an $80 special for one hour massages and facials with plans to offer yet another special at $69.”
