'Penny War' brings change to Sunshine League

THURSDAY, JULY 21: Today members of the OIL Group of Companies (OIL and OCIL) wheeled bottles full of pennies and other change, donated by employees, to the bank to be exchanged for $2000 in cash for the Sunshine League.

Over the last few weeks staff members engaged in a spirited competition to collect the most pennies while redirecting silver and gold coins to other departments' bottles to try and fill them first. All 45 employees participated in supporting the cause.

Cause-coordinator Debby Backeberg said, “We had so many bottles full of coinage I had to bring my daughters’ wagon in to the office to wheel it all to the bank to be counted. We estimated that we had nearly 300 pounds of coins.”
