The ICC decision to cut the number of cricket teams at the World Cup from 14 to 10 isn’t winning warm praise locally.

Bermuda qualified for the 2007 World Cup when the field was open to 16 teams.

There were some lopsided scores at those matches as the minnows faced off against test nations leading for some crickets to call for a reduction in the number of countries allowed to participate.

By reducing the competition to 10 teams, it would make it virtually impossible for Bermuda to ever qualify again.

Reginald Pearman, president of the BCB commented on the ICC press statement released yesterday which announced that the ICC Cricket World Cup should consist of a 10 team format for the reducing the chances for Associate countries to reach the 2015 World Cup.

Mr. Pearman said: “obviously we are extremely disappointed with this decision, however, we are waiting for further information. We are hopeful that more opportunities will arise for Associate countries in other competitions.”

As a flip side to reducing the number of teams at the World Cup proper, the ICC also announced it was increasing the number of sides at the 2012 Twenty20 World Cup from 12 to 16.
