FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21: The Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club will celebrate and honour past national champions this Sunday, October 23 at the Bermuda Motorsports Park, Southside St. David’s.
The event gets underway at 1pm and will be a special trophy race event in honour of club’s past national champions.
The riders being honoured in the Race of Championships event are Kyle Pimental, Marvin ‘Skinny Robinson’ and Toriano ‘The Animal’ Wilson. Pimental, Robinson and Wilson all won national championships under the BMRC within the GP125 Class (2002), Superbike Class (2006) and GP80 Class (2005) respectively. Each rider has been honoured with a memorial trophy presented annually to the winning rider within their respective classes in the annual event.
Cyril Whitter, BMRC vice-president said: “The coveted GP125 title is up for grabs as championship rivals Bruce Degrilla Jr. — the defending champ — and rookie Jordan Fletcher head into the Race of Champions tied in points. Bruce has dominated the class all season long though missing a few races due to his athletic commitments in track and field.
“Jordan took his maiden victory in the classification on October 9 and has had a very consistent season to date.”
“The GP80 classification has been hot all season with rivals Jazari Caisey and Shae Darrell swapping wins throughout the year.
“Jazari holds a strong lead in the overall standings and has his sights on taking home the Toriano Wilson award in this weekend’s event.
Likewise in the Superbike classification Shannon Caisey (Jazari’s father) has dominated all year on his Yamaha R6 Supersport built machine.
“Rivals Cody Sousa-Saints and Paul Decouto will be looking to knock the current championship leader off his throne and take home the Marvin ‘Skinny’ Robinson award.
“In the BMRC’s development class Tamia Place has one hand on securing a second Mini Bike championship heading into the Race of Champions.
“Championship rival Coleridge Fubler has been gaining ground in the second half of the season, reducing the gap to only 41 points. “
Sunday will also mark the end to the inaugural Bermuda Sun Riders Cup for team sponsors.
Admission for the event is $10 for adults and children 12 and under and seniors are free.
