FRIDAY, MAY 4: The Commercial Softball league playoffs started this past week at the Michael Preece Softball Stadium.
A Division
Precision Cabling Panthers are playing Bermuda Pest Control for the right to challenge Docksiders Tuff Dogs in the A Division Final
In the first of a best of three series, Panthers slipped past Pest Control in a wild-rollicking rollercoaster affair. Panthers won the contest 32 to 29 as both teams scored in each half of their seven innings. Preston Mallory homered twice from the leadoff spot while teammates McLaren Lowe and Tracey Bean also parked the ball over the fence.
Richard Medeiros (2 HR), Terence Corday (HR) and Alex Smith (HR) hit well in the losing cause for Pest Control.
B Division
YouKnowDat is the top seed in the B Division, but they find themselves being stretched to three games as Paraquet Flyers pulled off an upset.
In the first contest, Steven Simons, Kenrick Richardson and Joel Duffy were all 4-5 as they helped Dat to a 25 to 16 victory. Simons had two homers and Richardson one, as Dat had a 31-hit assault.
Ernest McCallan, Dennis Joell, and Jonathan Correia were all 3-4 in the losing cause. Both Joell and Alex Roque homered.
Game 2 of the series was a much different story as Paraquet scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to force a third game. Roque (2-4) played the hero by driving in the winning run. Joell was again 3-4 with a homer for the Flyers while Chris Osbourne (2-4, 2 HR) drove in four runs.
Simons was 3-4 with 4 RBI while Matthew Hayward (2-4) drove in three runs and homered.
The other half of the B final saw two grand slams help Rosa’s knock off Front Street rival Outback in a 19 to 10 win in the first game of their series. Tory Richard (3-3) homered twice, but was also walked intentionally to load the bases for Al Busby (3-4), who then hit the first grand slam. Les Dziwenka (3-4) hit the second in the sixth inning to give Rosa’s breathing room. Outback put three on the board on a Justin Tomas homer and added six in the fourth inning. Both Sharon Schmidt and Darren Green were 3-4.
Scared Hitless had an 11-run sixth inning to pull away from St George’s to win 23 to 11 in the C Division. Jumane Davis (4-5) blasted three homers while Lavar Bassett (3-4) helped the cause with a third inning homer. Zachary Simmons (3-3) was perfect at the plate for the winners. St George’s plated six runs in the first inning to jump out to the early advantage with Troy Hall (4-5) picking up two of his 6 RBI. Hall would later homer as would Ricky Foggo (2-4). Rudell Pitcher was a solid 3-4.
