Outerbridge: Wicket put us at a disadvantage

Vice-captain Stephen Outerbridge said Bermuda was at a disadvantage on its home ground thanks to an ever-changing wicket.

He only managed 23 runs in his two innings and be looking to improve upon that figure in Monday's one-day game.

Outerbridge said: "I really just want a good team performance from Monday's game, especially since we lost the four day. We want to win, but at the end of the day we want a really good team performance. If we get the process right, I'm sure we can get a victory."

He said there was no extra pressure in being the vice-captain.

He said of the four-day match: "The Ugandans used the wicket much better than we did. They penetrated the wicket much better than us. It wasn't the greatest of wickets. Of the two four-day (matches) we've played up there, I felt that was the worst it's played.

"I'm not sure how it was prepared, but it was really difficult to bat on for our first innings and the Ugandans first innings. Then it rained and the wicket changed again. Then the sun came out and it probably played a little better when the Ugandans were on it."

Outerbridge added: "At the end of the day, we're at a disadvantage on our home ground. This happened against Scotland as well. It just changes. One day it's bouncing and it's quick, then it's turning, then it's not turning. We don't get to play on it so we can't get the pattern of how it plays."

He said all batsmen would prefer the ball coming onto the bat, but when the ball ends up coming at three different speeds from the same type of delivery, it's just a nightmare for the batsmen.

"It makes it difficult which strokes you want to play. It makes it harder to score."

Captain David Hemp said regardless of the circumstances, Bermuda's batsmen have to dig deep.

"It wasn't an easy wicket to bat on and you can always put the blame somewhere else, but it's important for us to look at how we batted and how we bowled.

"The surface was the same for both sides, so the bottom line was we didn't score enough runs. In the first innings to get 91 all out. We shouldn't have gotten that. If we had gotten 150, then it would have been slightly more difficult for them chasing. That was the difference.

"We showed a lot more fight with the bat the second time around and to bowled them out for 118, I was pleased with."
