Skipper Oronde Bascome will have the honour of leading St George’s’ traditional Cup Match victory march in the Old Town tomorrow.
Bascome will lead the procession on horseback with the coveted showpiece in hand.
The march route begins in King’s Square, St George’s and concludes at Wellington Oval.
Immediately following the victory march, that officially gets underway at 6:45pm, the champions will hold their Cup Match prize ceremony before resuming post-game celebrations.
Neil Paynter, St George’s Cricket Club president, said: “We want to encourage everyone to come out to celebrate and join in the march – both young and old.”
St George’s beat rivals Somerset by two-wickets in an enthralling match that went right down to the wire at Wellington Oval a week ago.
Paynter added: “The match was a thriller and swung back and forth, especially on the second day, which bodes well for Cup Match and cricket in general.”
St George’s fast bowler Stefan Kelly was named as Man of the Match after claiming superb figures of ten for 99 to become only the 11th player in Cup Match history to achieve the feat.
