October 6: News in brief

Weekend blackout

Southampton residents face a full day without power this Saturday.

Belco is carrying out emergency repairs in the Church Road area between 9am and 5pm.

The following areas will be affected: St. Anne’s Church; Church Road; Turtle Bay Lane, Crescent and Drive; Welcome Place; Port Royal Lane, Gardens and Mews; Admiral Lane; and South Road.

Crews are to transfer wires to a new pole in Church Road and undertake related work in underground vaults.

Belco says the work has to be completed at the weekend due to Port Royal School and Chatterbox Preschool being located in the area.

Premier award

The Premier has been commended for his efforts in sustainable tourism.

Dr. Ewart Brown, Minister of Tourism and Transport, received an award from the Caribbean Media Exchange on Sustainable Tourism (CMEx) in Kingston, Jamaica.

The World Leadership Award “recognizes those who inspire others with their life’s work to the cause of sustainable tourism and development”.
