OBM International is helping develop a $33 million hotel in earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

The project will be the country’s first airport hotel and will include conference facilities.

The 5.3-acre site also allows for future development, specifically commercial office and retail outlets.

OBMI, which has an office in Bermuda, has partnered with Argentine entrepreneur Rolando Gonzalez-Bunster, president and CEO of Basic Energy Ltd., and the WIN group for the hotel, which will be adjacent to Port-au-Prince’s Toussaint L’Ouverture airport.

The seven-storey property will be the first for the Haiti Initiative professional group, organized by OBMI to provide one-stop services for the reconstruction and redevelopment process in Haiti.

Douglas A. Kulig, CEO of OBMI, said: “We are pleased with the opportunity to be part of such an integral project.

“The hotel will be elegant, with a distinct Creole feel in order to provide its guests with an authentic and inclusive experience.”

In a statement, former U.S. president Bill Clinton, UN Special Envoy to Haiti and co-chair of the Interim Haiti Reconstruction Commission, said: “Our goal is to encourage long-term sustainable investment in Haiti.

“An adequate network of hotels is crucial to the country and this venture is one example that the numerous facets needed to rebuild Port-au-Prince are slowly getting underway.”[[In-content Ad]]
