OBA offers the island no ideas, no solutions
FRIDAY, JULY 27: In every election year there is something I can guarantee: an opposition party will attempt to actively attack and smear everything the government does to score cheap points and make media buzz.
While no government is perfect, do we deserve to hear nothing but negative rhetoric on a daily basis?
Usually, that opposition party also tells us what they plan on doing should they form the next Government. This one hasn’t! This one doesn’t!
The OBA has offered little in terms of workable ideas and solutions to the problems facing Bermudians.
At the same time, many of their attacks aren’t based on the facts, but, instead, are emotional appeals that lack grounding in the truth.
Consider the following. It is a fact that these are difficult times and, in these difficult times, this government is standing strong for Bermudians by making investments in our people.
Our investments in schools, housing, roads, docks, buses and ferries, buildings and infrastructure serve to improve the quality of life for all Bermudians so that we can all continue to thrive and prosper.
This investment protects jobs and in these difficult economic times, protecting jobs is a top priority.
Instead of supporting investment that benefits Bermudians, the opposition constantly shoves ‘national debt’ in our faces as their go-to argument about ANY government investment.
What they don’t tell you is that Bermuda’s national debt is among the lowest in the world!
They also don’t tell you that cutting the debt means cutting investment in programmes that matter to your life.
This could mean increases in FutureCare premiums. It could mean cuts to DayCare. It could mean less investment and lost jobs. We don’t really know what it means because the OBA won’t tell us where they stand.
When have you heard their leader, Mr Cannonier give any concrete plans for Bermuda’s future?
Where do they stand?
He and the OBA attack and attack and attack, but, they offer little in way of workable ideas. Why? Could it be that they don’t want you to know where they stand on the issues?
Could it be it is easier to use rumours and false information to smear the actions of the PLP and talk down Bermuda’s economy in their attempt to confuse and mislead our people?
Are they doing all of this for the sole goal of assuming the reins of Government and implement some sort of fast and radical change whose policies they refuse to define?
In fact, it currently appears as though the OBA has few goals and even less in terms of ideas of its own except to disparage the PLP and sow distrust amongst Bermudians.
Enough is enough. Bermudians stand for honesty and integrity, not deception and undercutting.
The rumours the OBA are spreading about this PLP government have no place in the minds of rational and knowledgeable people.
• Diallo Rabain is the PLP candidate for Constituency 7, Hamilton South.
