No bones — Patrick’s skeleton debut is today
Singleton, Bermuda’s lone competitor in these games, should make his Olympic debut in the skeleton sometime after 1pm today.
This will be Singleton’s third Olympics having previously competed in the luge in both Salt Lake City and Ngano.
Singleton is seeded 21st out of 27 competitors by virtue of having finished fourth in the Olympic qualifier for non-World Cup nations.
American Eric Berontas might be the favourite for the event having the two fastest training heats. Also highly rated are Jeff Pain and Duff Gibson of Canada. Singleton has been battling an injury and may not be able to give his best effort today.
He previously told the Bermuda Sun: “I’d be happy if I was in the top 10. I'm really in-form with my driving, but my push…has dropped off. I haven't been able to maintain my form throughout the season. My focus right now is to improve my push.
“In order to get a good result, I am going to have to push well. I am capable of a very good result, but it’s contingent on a very solid push and driving well. If my push isn’t there, then a good result won’t be there.”
International Bobsled Federation communications director Don Krone.
“I would not expect him to be in the top 15. I’m basing that on the fact that ahead of him are going to be the Germans, the Canadians, the Swiss, the Latvians, the French, the Russians and the Americans. When you add it up, that’s what the reality is.”[[In-content Ad]]
