New Faces for National Squad

Talented 14-year-old Somerset all-rounder Greg Maybury is the surprise selection in a cricket squad full of new faces to travel to Europe next month.

Flatts batsman James Celestine has also been rewarded for his fine form this season with a national call-up while Western Stars' Maurice Lowe and Bailey's Bay keeper Roderick Masters are also in.

Jekon Edness will take over from the retired Dean Minors behind the stumps and his Cardiff academy team-mate Stephen Outerbridge will take over Minors' role as vice captain.

Irving Romaine retains the captaincy and is one of five players, along with Outerbridge, Lionel Cann, Kevin Hurdle and Dwayne Leverock, to retain their place following the World Cup.

Pace ace George O'Brien is back in the squad, with coach Gus Logie praising his change in attitude, and Ryan Steede also returns after injury.

Seamers Malachi Jones and Stefan Kelly, along with spinner Rodney Trott and batsman Chris Douglas, will join up with the squad for the second leg of the tour in Ireland after competing for the Under-19s in the World Cup qualifiers.

OJ Pitcher and Delyone Borden did not make themselves available because of school commitments while Janeiro Tucker and his cousin Kwame Tucker were not considered for selection after not attending training.

Bermuda will play Denmark in two 50-over matches starting on August 11, before traveling to Holland for a four-day-Intercontinental Cup game and two one-day internationals and then to Ireland for another Intercontinental Cup clash.

Coach Logie insisted that the team would travel to Europe with confidence, in spite of the many enforced changes.

"Every time you play you have to have a certain amount of confidence. It's a matter of the individuals believing they can do it and of us preparing them as best we can. Once we do that, the outcome will take care of itself."
