More trouble for Stovell

FRIDAY, JULY 8: Controversial cricketer Dion Stovell is facing potential disciplinary sanctions.

A source confirmed that the Southampton Rangers skipper, who has a history of run ins with the Bermuda Cricket Board, was summoned to appear before a disciplinary committee this week for allegedly bringing the game into disrepute during his team’s recent Premier match with Bailey’s Bay.

During proceedings at Sea Breeze Oval, Stovell is alleged to have stood his ground after being given out leg before by the umpire.

The talented yet temperamental opening batsman is also alleged to have been at the centre of verbal spats with a fan and Bay skipper Stephen Outerbridge.

It is alleged that the argument between the two opposing players held the match up for minutes.

Venting

Only last month Stovell was involved in a heated argument with a teammate during a senior national team practice match at the National Sports Centre for the upcoming regional World Twenty20 qualifiers.

After venting the Rangers skipper bailed out on his team and did not take any further part in Bermuda’s World Twenty20 preparations.

He was subsequently overlooked for this month’s crucial tournament in Florida, thus depriving the team of one of its key players. Meanwhile, also due to appear before the BCB’s disciplinary committee this week is Stovell’s teammate, Ryan Belboda.

The veteran seam bowler is also alleged to have stood his ground after being given out leg before by the umpire during last weekend’s match between Rangers and Bay.

Bay won the match by 66 runs.
