FRIDAY, MAR. 16: So close, yet so far.
Coach David Moore said about today’s defeat: “It was very close. I thought we bowled very well. We changed our tactic and bowled first. Netherlands are a very good side and we held them to 125 and unfortunately, in our middle overs, we let them get away from us.
“We got within four runs and in many ways I thought we played better than The Netherlands.
“Rodney Trott came in and batted really well with good intent to score runs. He got three fours in a row. He really batted very nicely. Unfortunately, we missed the trick in the middle overs. We could have scored a few more runs, plus we lost three guys for naught. Every wicket that falls is a duck ball and takes away from our ability to score runs.
Van der Gugten, with his pace, took four wickets, including Kamau Leverock, Terryn Fray and Jason Anderson for naught.
“We’re disappointed we lost today. Our decision making at a couple of crucial occasions in the cricket game let us down.
“One of the frustrating things for all the players and support staff is knowing we’re getting close (to winning). We’re seeing the difference in playing a lot of teams that play a lot of cricket. In Division 3 we’re not playing as much cricket as we would like.
“There’s still a good spirit in the team and they’re working very hard to get the win. If we can just make some better decisions at the right time, then we’ll be over the hump and we’ll be in business.”
Moore said three opening losses makes it tough to advance but with the type of game T20 is, Bermuda are still not out of it.
He said The Netherlands are one of the top associate teams in ODI and “we’ve pushed them all the way, and we know we can beat them. There’s still opportunities there because everyone can knock off everyone else.”
