Moore: We have to put aside all excuses for losses
And rightfully so after succumbing to their third defeat of the tournament yesterday, this time at the hands of Namibia.
It wasn’t too long ago David Moore’s team ventured off to the Middle East with high hopes of securing lucrative ICC funding, enhancing their chances of playing in the upcoming Intercontinental Cup and, at the very least, surviving in the WCL Division Two.
But that optimism has since been replaced by anxiety with Bermuda now staring straight down the barrel of relegation to the WCL Division Three.
It’s an unfortunate predicament coach Moore feels his team doesn’t deserve to be in given all the hard work that has been put in heading into the tournament.
“We just want the team to play a hundred overs of quality cricket, and we just haven’t been able to achieve that,” he told the Bermuda Sun.
“We came close to playing well against Hong Kong but apart from that we really haven’t played as well as we should be and the players know that and we know that.
“For us it’s a matter of putting aside all the excuses that we may have and take full responsibility. We have to be more accountable about our performances because we have been too inconsistent.”
Losses to Papua New Guinea, Uganda and Namibia has left Bermuda with their backs against the wall on the eve of tomorrow’s final fixture with unbeaten tournament hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE).
But Moore isn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet.
“If we win (against UAE) we have a very good chance of remaining in the division — even if other teams win as well.
“It’s all come down to the final round so it’s a very important game for the team itself and also for Bermuda cricket.”
Doubtful for tomorrow’s match is wicketkeeper Jason Anderson who is suffering from a severe cramps while seamer Malachi Jones is still hurting from a side strain.
