Mitchell boys conquer the world
Ten-year-old Jyire takes two titles in Belgium; younger brother sweeps event in Tennessee
The Devonshire youngster was sponsored by Metrakit to ride their prototype 50cc and 65cc bikes at the Masterkids event in Limes, Belgium.
And he did not disappoint - beating the best young talent from across the continent to claim both titles and become the first rider in the history of the competition to win two different classes.
Proud dad Shawn Mitchell said: "There were some good riders there from Spain and France and they were a handful for him. He was pretty tired afterwards but he was excited.
"Metrakit had sponsored us to come down and race. Their investment was to prove that their new bike - this was a prototype that had never been raced before - could be put on the box.
"They would have been happy with one championship, but Jyire gave them two."
Jyire's brother - seven-year-old Senoj - also competed in the 6-8-age category at the July event but had mechanical problems with his bike.
The pair, who both go to Warwick Academy, then went on to Tennessee in the U.S. to compete at the Loretta Lynn National Championships.
This time the roles were reversed with Jyire suffering mechanical problems while Senoj had a clean sweep of the titles in his age group.
"Senoj had a fall and had to go to hospital in the Masterkids event. It wasn't serious but it meant he couldn't win his event.
"But he made up for it in America. He won all three races against the best riders in the U.S."
Mitchell said he was delighted with how his sons had performed and hoped to find more opportunities for them to race overseas next year.
"I believed the boys had talent and I wanted to put them up against good riders and see how they fared.
"We got some good results. They've raced the best in Europe and America and they are up there with the top placed kids.
"They're going to take a break for the next year. It's very costly going to these races so we'll be doing some training and then going back to race in the U.S. in 2010."[[In-content Ad]]
