SUNDAY, JULY 8: Children have no respect for their elders as the Under-11 All-stars demolished the Celebrities with a 45 run victory on Saturday.
This was in spite of some heroics by Minister Patrice Minors with the ball and comedian Nadanja Bailey’s unique way of attempting to stop runs from scoring.
The Hiscox Under-11 Celebrity Cricket Match was played under hot and humid conditions Saturday afternoon at the National Sports Centre.
The Under-11 All-stars batted first and put up a respectable 111. Simeon Burrows the Man of the Match for the Under-11s with teammate Jaquari Paynter making the Play of the Game.
Minors had a fine spell bowling for the Celebrities and made a quick reaction catch on a ball smashed right back at her.
She certainly had a better turn with the ball than Bailey who had to resort going down the wicket and grabbing an Under-11 batsman in mid run while crying out “Throw me the ball! Throw me the ball!”
Alas, the umpire wwould have none of the comedians tricks.
Bermuda Marathon Derby winner Chris Estwanik also had a brief spell at bowling that provided the audience with a few laughs. It would be safe to say that Estwanik will not be giving up running for cricket in the near future.
The game was played with great spirit and the Under-11s came away with another well-deserved victory.
Prior to the match, the Under-11 All-star game was played with the West making it a clean sweep. Last week, the West won the Under-14s and Under-17s games.
This time the East batted first and put up 88 for five in their 20 allotted overs.
The West pushed across 89 runs in 17.4 overs with Jaiden Manders claiming the MVP Award. Jabari Darrell made the Play of the Game.
