Kevin Tucker appears to have shaken off the effects of an injury that plagued him last season.
The seamer will be counted on to help guide Bermuda to victory in the Americas Regional Division One Championship that gets underway today in various venues throughout the island.
Earlier this month Tucker guided PHC to its maiden BELCO Cup triumph.
Arnold Manders, Development officer for the Bermuda Cricket Board, said: “Kevin has put in the work — he just missed out on the South Africa and Namibia trip. We were concerned about his fitness — but he is improving day by day.
“He’s put in a lot of work and hopefully, if he gets a try, he will be successful in what he needs to do.”
Another player who has impressed is Joshua Gilbert.
Manders said: “Joshua has been training with the seniors and Under 19s and the coach has been pleased with the progress that he’s made. He has a lot to offer Bermuda cricket.”
Manders is also delighted to see the likes of Chris Douglas return to the fold.
The stylish opening batsman signalled his arrival on the international stage by stroking a polished half century against Chris Gayle’s West Indies in Florida in 2008.
Manders is optimistic Bermuda can improve on their third place finish at the previous Americas tournament in Toronto in 2008 this time around.
“We are looking to win it,” he declared. “This is just another stepping stone that will hopefully lead us to World Cup re-qualification.”
National coach David Moore also expressed optimism.
He said: “I believe that we have come up with (the) best available team to perform well in the Americas tournament. All the players in the squad are very talented individuals and it is hoped that they can combine well to perform at their best for their country.” n
