Lopes makes her debut

Jason North won two races to maintain his lead in karting action at Southside on Sunday.

North won the second and fourth heats of the TAG Senior Class and earned 78 points on the day, which was just two better than Luis Martins.

Christopher Osborne (74 points) and David Barbosa (70) also raced well on the day.

Barbosa might have been the overall points champion on Sunday but was disqualified in the day’s second heat, so he ended up with zero points in that race.

He trails North by 32 points for the overall season championship.

Martins won the first heat, but it was Osborne who picked up double the points by winning the third race heat of the day in the class.

Sunday’s first three heats saw six different karters finish first or second in the TAGs.

Andrew DeCosta and Rian Lindo each won two races in the 125cc Shifter Class.

DeCosta scored one more point than Lindo overall by finishing second twice while Lindo won the all-important third heat.

Decosta now trails Scott Barnes by 17 points for the overall class lead with Lindo 97 points behind Brandon Frank.

Amber Lopes made her debut in the Junior Clone Class. She finished second four times behind Stephen Corrado, who is the overall class leader with 290 points.

For her efforts, Lopes earned 85 points on Sunday.

The Senior In Clone Class was dominated by Blake Camara, who won all four heats.

David DeCosta had three seconds and a third while David Brewster finished second once, third twice and fourth once.

Brewster leads the class with 472 points, but Camara now trails by less than 100. Justin Frank is third with 341 while DeCosta, in his second day of racing, has 115.

The next race day is Sunday at noon at the Bermuda Motorsports Park at Southside.
