WEDNESDAY, JAN. 9: Amber Lopes picked up a huge victory in the Touch and Go karting Class on Sunday at Southside Raceway.
Lopes, 16, beat the men as the chequered flag dropped on her during the first heat.
Scott Barnes, who has been having a nearly unbeatable season, finished second. He picked it up in the second and third heats, claiming victories in both.
Bermuda Karting Club president Jason ‘Skuzzie’ North was second in the second heat with Stephen Corrado third.
Corrado had the most consistent day of any driver as he placed third in each of the three races. David Barbosa picked up the days other second place showing in the final heat.
For the day, Barnes picked up 57 points followed by Corrado’s 45 and North’s 45. Barbosa had 41 points followed by Lopes 39 to round out the top five.
Barnes is on top of the overall standings with 476 points, 22 ahead of Barbosa. Corrado is third an additional 59 points behind.
Barnes picked up three wins in the 125cc Shifter Class with Corrado taking two seconds and a third.
Shannon Caisey found his way to the podium with two thirds and rounded out his day with a fourth.
Anthony Bean had two fourths and a second.
Barnes has a 94-point advantage over Corrado for the class. Bean is third on 277 points.
Ryan Burgess was unchallenged in the Junior Clone Class for seven to 10 year olds while Blake Horseman picked up two victories in the Junior Stock Clone Class for 10 to 15 year olds. Corey Lewis snagged the other win.
Ryan Lopes swept the Junior Modified Clone Class for 10 to 15 year olds over Zanardi Daley.
