Lonergan 'doesn't fancy his chances', but does fancy free beer
Marc Lonergan will be making his second appearance in the ring for Teacher’s Rugby Fight Night.
He doesn’t expect to be in it long.
The Controversy Gym boxer isn’t being over confident in his abilities — far from it — he just has a realistic expectation that his opponent will soundly beat him.
Not that Lonergan is complaining, it just means he can get to drinking sooner.
“Last year it was very tiring, but there was free beer.”
What did he learn?
“I learned not to drink before the fight and do a bit of training before the fight.
“I did do a bit of training sessions but not as many as I should have done really. I had a lot to work on.”
Lonergan said his social life impacted how many sessions he got in as he never let a good party get in the way of a good workout.
“I haven’t done any training yet this year, but I have been doing a bit of fitness and have been sleeping well. I might last a bit longer this time. I definitely represent Chucky’s. That was the guy who set me up last year and he’s a fantastic trainer.”
He will be stepping into the ring against Richard Phinn.
“I don’t fancy my chances. He’s a very good fighter apparently who has been boxing since he was six. People I know, who know him, say I’ve got no chance.”
He is not bothered by that or by the fact he’s on the fight card early in the evening.
“That means I’ll be training with my right arm afterwards.”
