4/1/2009 5:57:00 AM Bermuda v UAE Live! • Please click refresh for updates
UAE win by four wickets with five overs remaining And it's over. Khan blasts another boundary taking his team to a fairly comfortable victory.
Leverock and co did thier best to make it interesting, but it was not to be. Bermuda did not score enough runs on a batting wicket and are off to a desperately disappointing start.
UAE weren't considered one of the top dogs in this tournament and Bermuda need to recover quickly if they are to stay in contention for the World Cup.

45th over: 188 for 6. Target 189
A mix-up between the wickets and Stefan Kelly shys at the stumps - almost running out Saqib. If he'd hit it would have been out.
UAE captain Khurram Khann smashes a four and a single to take UAE to 186 within two runs of victory.
By the scorecard here in the press box they're on 190 and have already won.
it isn't going to matter. UAE will complete the victory any secone now.

45th over: 180 for 6. Target 189
Confusion abounds. The scorers have 184 for 6. The scoreboard and ground announcer are claiming 180 for 6.
It may be academic, it may be a huge mess. We'll go with the scoreboard for now as that is what the players will be guided by.

44th over: 174 for 6. Target 189
Nayak has given some impetus to the UAE innings. He picks up three more with a push through the off-side that is well stopped on the boundary by Trott.

44th over: 173 for 6. Target 189
Sameer Nayak picks up a couple off his pads from O'Brien. Khan fails to take advantages of a full toss. 16 to win off six overs. The scoreboard now says 19 to win off six overs.

43rd over: 169 for 6. Target 189
UAE almost give it away. A mis-timed cover drive by captain Khurram Khan is dropped by Irving Romaine. That could have been crucial.

42nd over: 165 for 6. Target 189
WICKET! Aslan - lbw O'Brien 8.
UAE start to move in for the kill, sensing that victory is close.
Naeemudin Aslan slaps a short ball from O'Brien to the boundary but the fast bowler immediately gets his own back.
He responds with a yorker that lands on his toes - lbw.
It's really getting interesting now. UAE are down to the dregs of thier batting order and Bermuda are fired up.
The equation is simple. UAE need 24 to win. Bermuda need four wickets.
UNLESS the scoreboard in the stadium has it right in which case UAE has only 4 runs less.

41st over: 157 for 5. Target 189
Some confusion over the score as the official scorers each have different totals.
They need to sort it out soon as this could be close.

40th over: 153 for 5. Target 189
A couple of singles off the over from Tucker, whose steady medium pacers have been called on for the final overs.
39th over: 149 for 5. Target 189
WICKET! Rodney Trott gets his man. Amjad Ali is caught behind - another smart catch from Edness from a thin edge. Could Bermuda be about to stage an unlikely recovery. Amjad Ali has gone for ten.
The score is now 149 for 5.
40 to win for the UAE. 11 overs remaining.

37th over: UAE 143 for 4.Target 189
A rare boundary from Khan who cuts loose to crack Trott through the leg side for four
36th over: UAE 137 for 4.Target 189
The pre-tournament hype was all about Bermuda's batting line-up but they haven't lived up to the billing today. It's been down to the spinners to try and dig them out of trouble again.
Trott and Leverock are making a decent fist of it.
But that's Sluggo's alloted overs finished. He did exactly what was asked of him ending with immaculate figures of one for 13 from ten overs with an amazing five maidens.

35th over: UAE 132 for 4.Target 189
UAE skipper Khurram Khan jabs Trott through leg-side for a single, before Amjad Ali plays a nice late cut for two.
He picks up another quick single from the final ball of the over.
34th over: UAE 128 for 4.Target 189
Sluggo reels off another maiden. He has conceded just ten off nine overs.
Phenomenal stuff from the big man. Will it be enough?

33rd over: UAE 128 for 4.Target 189
The batsmen work the singles off Trott,
They're still on target for a comfortable win but a couple of quick wickets could change all that.

32nd over: UAE 124 for 4.Target 189
WICKET! Sluggo draws Saqib Ali into a rash shot and Hemp takes an easy catch running in from the covers. Ali made a useful 31. There's a glimmer of hope here for Bermuda. A couple more wickets and the door could open a crack. Wicket-maiden for Leverock.
31st over: UAE 124 for 3.Target 189
Good piece of fielding from Kelly who hits the stumps with a throw from the boundary.
A stumping appeal from Edness is turned down.

30th over: UAE 117 for 3.Target 189
There's a real lull in the action as UAE plod towards a seemingly inevitable victory.
The sound of thunder in the distance has given way to the whir of a light aircraft circling the ground.
UAE require 71 runs to win from 120 balls.

29th over: UAE 111 for 3.Target 189
Four from the over. That will do as far as the UAE are concerned. They are within touching distance of victory.

28th over: UAE 107 for 3.Target 189
WICKET! Stefan Kelly is back in the attack and is immediately in business. He clean bowls Ali for 41 with a good length delivery that scythes right through the opening batsman.

27th over: UAE 103 for 2.Target 189
UAE need 86 to win from 23 overs. Trott's keeping it tight but Bermuda can't keep it that tight for that long. Wickets are a must now.

26th over: UAE 100 for 2.Target 189
O'Brein looks menacing, enticing Ali to play and miss.
The opener is taking few chances though as he closes in on a half-century. Saqib Ali is being a bit more flamboyant and helps himself to four from a leg-side pull to bring up the 100.

25th over: UAE 94 for 2.Target 189
Trot's back on from the stadium end. Just a handful of singles from that over.

24th over: UAE 89 for 2.Target 189 An interesting ploy from Bermuda as pacer O'Brien comes back into the attack. Romaine has turned to the big seamer in search of a much needed wicket. He's still looking lively but no breakthrough this over.
23rd over: UAE 87 for 2.Target 189
UAE's bats seem content to push and prod and play out Sluggo's overs, waiting for an onslaught against the other bowlers. They still have plenty of time and wickets in hand to get these runs.

22nd over: UAE 83 for 2.Target 189
Rodney Trott is into the attack and he keeps the pressure on with another tight over.

21st over: UAE 79 for 2.Target 189
The game's gone quiet. Two from that over. Very tidy stuff from the ever dependable Sluggo.

20th over: UAE 77 for 2.Target 189
A little bit of frustration creeps in for the batsmen and they start to take a few risks.
It works in their favour though with Ali getting his first boundary in ten overs.

19th over: UAE 72 for 2.Target 189
Leverock has these two batsmen under lock and key.
The big policeman is giving absolutely nothing away.
That's his third consecutive maiden over and he's 0 for 5 from 5.

18th over: UAE 72 for 2.Target 189
Nothing flash from Tucker - military medium wicket to wicket.
But he keeps it in the right spot and it's another low scoring over.

17th over: UAE 70 for 2.Target 189
They can't get Leverock off the square. Another maiden over from the big man, who has a few hearty appeals for lbw turned down.

16th over: UAE 70 for 2.Target 189
Tucker continues to keep it steady. After scoring at almost six an over in the first ten, UAE have managed just 11 runs in the last six overs.

15th over: UAE 67 for 2.Target 189
A big lbw shout from Sluggo but it is turned down.
Ali is dropping anchor for UAE, trying to see his side through to victory. Maiden over.

14th over: UAE 67 for 2.Target 189
WICKET! And Tucker provides it. Gopal is gone caught behind. A sharp catch from keeper Edness standing up to the seamer. Gopal made 16.
Eight more of those and we're in business.

13th over: UAE: 64 for 1. Target 189
Leverock and tucker have put the brakes on. Two from that over.
It's wickets Bermuda need now, though. The only way to win this is to bowl UAE out.

12th over: UAE: 64 for 1. Target 189
Four from the over as tucker maintains a solid line and length.

11th over: UAE: 60 for 1. Target 189
They're back on,without any rain. Leverock is into the attack.
It's a steady opening over from the big spinner, who goes for two.

Rain stops play: The umpires pull the players off the field with the rain on the way. It's not actually raining yet but a storm that has been threatening all day is heading this way and the covers are on as a precaution.

10th over: UAE: 58 for 1. Target 189
Ali 16*, Gopal 11*
The UAE are starting to combine some real cricket shots with the swinging as Arshad Ali flicks Janeiro Tucker, in his first over, wristily through the leg side for four

9th over: UAE: 53 for 1. Target 189
Rain is on the way and there's no way of looking at these Duckworth/Lewis tables that makes things any brighter for Bermuda.
If this game is reduced by rain then UAE will win.
Regardless of the weather the boys from Dubai are big favourites now.

8th over: UAE: 49 for 1. Target 189
Both batsmen are cashing in now. ten off the over as Kelly takes some punishment.

7th over: UAE: 39 for 1. Target 189
Things have calmed down a little since Javed was dismissed, but the new batsmen Nithin Gopal looks reasonably sharp too. He punches through leg for 4.

6th over: UAE: 34 for 1. Target 189
A better over from Kelly who has a good shout for an lbw turned down.
5th over: UAE: 31 for 1. Target 189
WICKET: Javed falls - caught Hemp bowled O'Brien.
Javed continues to take risks. He's hitting in the air, but he's getting away with it.
There's not much to his strategy - swing and hope for the best.
But Bermuda need to stop him soon.
As I finish that sentence they do just that - Javed is caught in the deep by Hemp after another ill-timed swipe. He made 26.

4th over: UAE: 29 for 0. Target 189
Lost ball as Javed continues his ploy of trying to swipe UAE to a quick victory,
He belts Kelly out the ground for six and the UAE are already racing towards their target.

3rd Over: UAE: 19 for 0, Target: 189 to win.
Javed is taking a few risk and slices O'Brien through third man for four.
The fast bowler continues to steam in with the sound of distant thunder in the background. He shakes Javed up with a short delivery but the batsman then takes revenge clubbing him through the off-side for 4.

UAE: 8 for 0, Target: 189 to win.
Amjad Javed clips Kelly for four through leg side and UAE are in business.
Bermuda could use an early wicket and Kelly does look threatening as he entices Javed to play and miss.

UAE: 1 for 0, Target: 189 to win.

O'Brien is thundering in bowling at electric speed on a quick wicket.
Just one leg bye off that over. There's a bit of rain about and the complicated Duckworth ewis method could come into affect to decide this match. Let's hope not

BERMUDA INNINGS: 188 all out: Bermuda collapses after Tucker's dismissal and will find it hard to defend this total.
It could have been worse after wickets clattered early on.
Jekon Edness, Stephen Outerbridge and Iriving Romaine all made contributions but it was Tucker's fighting innings of 67 that saved Bermuda from disaster. He was aided by a measured innings from Rodney Trott, who supported him well with 18.
UAE bowled well early on with the seamers looking lively but Bermuda lost their heads a little bit against the slow bowlers and this is an extremely low total on a good batting pitch.
They now have to bowl UAE out. Over to O'Brien, Kelly and Sluggo. The pressure is on.
WICKET - Kelly falls lbw for a duck to the slow bowling of Saqib Ali.
46 overs: WICKET - 187 for 9. A swing and a miss from O'Brein and he is bowled as well. It's all starting to fall apart.
With four overs left its down to Kelly and Leverock to squeeze what they can out of this innings.

WICKET - 187 for 8 after 45 overs. Trott attempts to pick up the pace with a few lusty swings, but he plays and misses and is bowled by the spin of Arshad Ali.
Leverock joins George O'Brien, who is unbeaten on 3 at the crease.

WICKET! Tucker has gone for 69 leaving Bermuda on 182 for 7 in the 44th over. A real fighting innings from Tucker who produced his best with his back to the wall.
Now it's up to the tail enders to take Bermuda to a respectable total.

42 overs: Bermuda: 175 for 6
Trott 14*, Tucker 66*
Four singles from the over as Tucker and Trott keep things ticking over.

41 overs: Bermuda: 171 for 6 Trott 12*, Tucker 64*
Tucker cracks another one through the off-side for four and then picks up a single.
Tucker cracks a full toss for another boundary later in the over.
Bermuda could yet post a competitive total in this game.
39 overs: Bermuda 156 for 6
Trott 12*, Tucker 50*
Tucker rattles the high branches of the oak trees that line the ground with a huge six over square leg, he follows up with a punch through the leg side to bring up his fifty He doesn't seem to know he's got it though. Either that or he's waiting till he makes a hundred to celebrate!.
38 overs: Bermuda 148 for 6
Trott 12*, Tucker 41*
tTucker is picking up the rate against the spinners and moves into the 40s with a thunderous drive for four. Trott pusehs on with a couple of briskly taken singles. He's playing patiently but running well between the wickets. 36 overs: Bermuda 135 for 6
Trott 7*, Tucker 34*
A delicate tickle to leg for a single from Trott, a leg-bye, Trott pushes another single. Trott then leg glances for four. A good over for Bermuda who also pick up four wides. 35 overs: Bermuda 125 for 6
Trott 6*, Tucker 31*
Just a single for Tucker and Trott blocks out the over.
34 overs: Bermuda 124 for 6
Trott 6*, Tucker 31*
Tucker is taking them on now. He launches a huge six straight past the bowlers head then cracks one through the off-side which requires an athletic stop to keep it to a single.
33 overs: Bermuda 117 for 6
Trott 6*, Tucker 24*
Trott pushes through the off-side for two and picks up another briskly taken double in the same area. He settles for a single off the same shot later in the over.
The players take a quick drinks break with Bermuda hanging on to life in this game by their fingernails.
For those of you just waking up its been a tough morning with UAE's quicks ripping through the top order.
The strategy this morning was to make a score of around 300, now they are just clinging on hoping to bat the 50 overs and see if the bowlers can dig them out of trouble.

WICKET! Bermuda 110 for 6, 31 overs.

Romaine is out stumped for 17 off the bowling of Khurram Khan. The square-leg umpire thought for a long time before finally lifting the executioner's finger.

30 overs: Bermuda 110 for 5
Romaine 17*, Tucker 23*
Tucker cracks one through the off-side for four as the revival continues.

28 overs: 102 for 5
Romaine 15*, Tucker 18*
Just a single and an extra from that over.

27 overs: 100 for 5
Romaine 15*, Tucker 17*
Bermuda bring up three figures from a leg bye. Tucker takes a knock on the shoulder off a nasty bouncer from the ever threatening Zahid Shah.
This pair is starting to breathe life into Bermuda's innings again, but they are taking a few risks.

25 overs: Bermuda 94 for 5
Romaine and Tucker start to show their class.
First the captain thumps a couple of much needed boundaries and then Tucker weighs in with a delicate late cut for a boundary of his own.
It's all on these two now.

WICKET: 67 for 5, 18.3 overs. Outerbridge is gone, caught behind for 16, off the pacy Zahid Shah. Bermuda are in all kinds of trouble now. Janeiro Tucker and Irving Romaine are two of our most experienced batsmen and it is down to them now to salvage this game for Bermuda.

WICKET: 63 for 4, 16.2 overs Hemp is out for a duck Hemp falls victim to a sensational one-handed boundary catch. The former Galmorgan captain attempts to push the rate along, going for a big hook, and is out caught - a magnificent running catch on the boundary, Bermuda are in all sorts of trouble as skipper Irving Romaine comes to the crease

15 overs: Bermuda: 61 for 3 UAE's quick have put the lock on for the time being as Hemp and OUterbridge try to steady the ship. This is a crucial stage of the game and Bermuda cannot afford to lose any more wickets right now. WICKET! 58 for 3 after 12.1 overs Edness has gone for 17. Clean bowled by Nithan Gipal off his first bal. We're in the 13th over and though the scoring rate has improved with Outerbridge starting to cut loose after a watchful start, Bermuda are struggling against the UAE quicks. Amjad Javed in particular was causing real trouble. Zahid Shah, another quick is on now with Hemp and Outerbridge at the crease. Time for a big innings from Hemp! 10 Overs: Bermuda 37 for 2 Edness 16*, Outerbridge 0* A tough opening to the game for Bermuda. The run-rate was good early on, but they've lost quick wickets. Lionel Cann blasted three boundaries before being caught in the third over for 12. Glenn Blakeney managed two fours before succumbing lbw after surviving a series of appeals. Fast bowler Amjad Javed took both wickets. Jekon Edness has been steady, playing a cautious innings so far, content to wait for the bad ball and hang in there for his team. The outfield is lightning fast and the batsmen barely have to touch the ball before it is racing to the boundary for four. Gus Logie estimates a score of around 280 would be par for the course on this pitch. The two Cardiff Academy boys - Edness and Outerbridge - are at the wicket right now. And a big partnership will be required to take Bermuda to a winning total. Pre-amble: Good morning and welcome to a leafy Potchefstroom University Cricket Ground as Bermuda begins its bid to qualify for the Cricket World Cup. Over the next two-and-a-half weeks Irving Romaine's men will compete with 11 other countries for one of the four remaining spots in the Cricket World Cup. The XI is: Irving Romaine, David Hemp, Stephen Outerbridge, Janeiro Tucker, Lionel Cann, Glenn Blakeney, Jekon Edness, Dwayne Leverock, Rodney Trott, Stefan Kelly, George O'Brien. Edness and Lionel Cann will open. [[In-content Ad]]
