Letter: We've never said that we'd scrap FutureCare
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 7: Dear Sir,
Christopher Famous’s column on Wednesday [Oct. 31] is a reflection of what we can expect in the coming election from the Government, and it’s not good — distortions, spin and fear mongering.
Mr Famous raised the spectre of an OBA Government getting rid of FutureCare.
We have never said that. We would never do that.
We think FutureCare is a great idea in many ways, but it needs to be made fair. We don’t want seniors paying two different rates for the same benefits.
The programme also has to be made financially sustainable, as the Health Minister himself has acknowledged when he said, as paraphrased by Mr Famous, that “we have to map it out and it will keep working”.
The OBA will make FutureCare financially sustainable — without increasing Bermuda’s debt — so seniors can continue to enjoy health coverage for years to come.
The OBA will continue to ensure seniors’ access to affordable prescription drugs, doctor’s visits and the care they deserve.
Trying to scare seniors with a baseless ‘analysis’, as Mr. Famous has tried to do, is below-the-belt politics and one more reason to agree that it’s time for change.
Nandi Davis,
OBA Candidate, St. George’s West, Constituency 2.
