Letter - We should boycott the Big Conversation
For we cannot do anything against the truth but for the truth".1 Cor.13:8
I am writing in response to the article entitled, 'We need a 'big conversation' on race. But people need to speak more softly if they want it to work'.
I whole-heartedly agree that we do need a 'big conversation' on race. My disagreement and concerns is about the way the 'big conversation' should continue:
• Mrs. Bernestine Singley and Dr. Bob Jensen conducted the "Big Conversation" from March 2007 until November 2007.
• A final report was submitted to the government in February 2008.
• Many sincere Bermudians who were committed to improve race relations in this country sacrificed their time to engage in the dialogue. We have not seen the final report.
• Where is the accountability ? Where is the transparency? Where is the integrity? Where is the genuine commitment to improve race relations in this country?
• How can we proceed to Part 2 without knowing the recommendations that were set out in Part 1?
• Shouldn't we, the taxpayers, be entitled to a more purposeful and meaningful account of taxpayers' dollars ?
• What will be done to engage the churches, clubs and other organizations in the "Big Conversation".
I suggest that we boycott the "Big Conversation" until we have seen and discussed the final report of Part I.
