Letter: Some whites have made an effort
The National Association of Reconciliation, which I co-founded, was quite active for about a decade. During the last four or five years there were primarily a few whites that kept us going. They could not influence the wider white Community but I valued their contribution.
I know that when we finally became inactive it was not the result of some devious conspiracy by white folks. It was the direct result of the deep division created between black supporters of the PLP after the 1998 victory.
Currently, the most active members of CURB, with which I am associated, are white.
I have yet to see how much they will influence the wider white Community. In any event I value their efforts.
I am not personally interested in, or inclined to, label individual Whites as "racist" or anything else. I am, however, extremely interested in examining the phenomenon of the ideology of racism and the long term impact it has had on both Blacks and Whites.
It has been so widely disseminated and so effectively implemented that everyone in our society, both Black and White (and including Mr. Hayward) has been infected by its evil and poisonous influence.
What any of us do about it is the real challenge.
I am not sure why Mr. Hayward has suddenly found it necessary to attribute to me words that I did not say and attitudes that I do not hold.
I realize that he is currently quite frustrated and dislikes my brother Arthur but spare me from false accusations. I have enough sins that are truly my own.
