Letter - Open your eyes: Bermuda is getting out of control

DEAR SIR,

I am a Bermudian living in New York and I still follow the happenings in Bermuda.

I am totally disheartened by the direction Bermuda has taken in many aspects. Crimes of violence have escalated to a critical level and it seems the government and the people have become anaesthesized to the seriousness of that situation. Does Bermuda want to become like some other parts of the world where the situation has become out of control or do the people of Bermuda, law enforcement and the judiciary, want to resign themselves to the attitude that this is just how life is these days?

I've seen some cases where horrendous crimes have been treated as ordinary occurences and not worthy of crucial interventions by the judiciary. Some examples, the parents of the starved baby who died a miserable death, one of whom is a medical professional, are walking around as if they did nothing wrong, the Rebecca Middleton killers were let off the hook and walk around like it is okay, the killers who viciously took the guts out of that young man at Ice Queen still walk around, the many unsolved murders which allow unknown murderers to walk among all of you.

Slap on the wrist

Then there's the most outrageous lies that are told to the presiding judges in the courts and they are believed by these presumably intelligent individuals. They walk into peoples houses violating their privacy and safety stealing thousands of dollars of their hard earned possessions and are given slaps on their wrists by the supposed learned professionals.

The criminally minded know that they can get away with a lot of their crimes which is one of the reasons why they continue to hold that community hostage to their depravity which is often fuelled by those nasty drugs, including marijuana, which the "elite narco unit" allow to be sold on the streets and in certain neighbourhoods with impunity.

And if the "glitz and glamour" revolutionary leader of Bermuda Ewart Brown performed his shenanigans in a place like New York or other parts of the U.S.A. he would have been ousted a long time ago. Why anyone with any good sense would buy a luxury car built for speed for the roads of Bermuda is beyond me. The speed limit does not accommodate those cars even when the trend was instigated by John Swan.

Schmoozing

And why would Ewart Brown, who fancies himself as some kind of down in the trenches revolutionary, find it necessary to use taxpayers' money to be schmoozing with the likes of Hugh Hefner at his Bunny Ranch where he has gathered young girls to use at his warped discretion? And disrespecting a representative of the people, Louise Jackson when she rightfully told him about it.

I never saw Ewart Brown or some others, back-o-town following the gombeys back-in-the-day yet he rides on the new found popularity of the gombeys by certain people who were most likely forbidden to be seen in the presence of the gombeys, and names his house Gombey House. Do you think that if any politician in this country ran a campaign like he did would be sitting at the helm of the country like he is in Bermuda?

Taunting Michael Dunkley and encouraging his followers to do the same, as "The Milkman" I bet he and those same taunters woke up the next morning and drank his milk!  There is a lot more to say but I just thought I would touch on a few things.

Open your eyes Bermuda!
