Letter - Education is not a private business

Dear Sir,

After reading [Larry Burchall's] column in the Friday, December 19 edition of the Bermuda Sun, I was struck by one thought - you don't get it!

Education is NOT A BUSINESS! And private schools do better because they CHOOSE who they will educate.

Government schools take whoever comes through the door. If I could afford to drive a brand new, shiny car every year, I would very likely not have to hire people to fix it.

But if I was forced to drive an old broken down jalopy (or a brand new car assembled by someone who made mistakes) I would probably have to hire a wide array of fix-it people; to clean and repair broken engine parts, to fix a leaky radiator, repair the electrical system when the air conditioner breaks down, repair rips in the interior upholstery, repair the broken windscreen, and so on.
