Letter - Education 'better under segregation'

Dear Sir,

Columnist Larry Burchall has written a series of articles on the failure of the public education system in the last 20-plus years. I wonder if he has ever asked himself, 'why is it that a primarily black Ministry of Education (and ultimately a black community) has failed to educate so many of our black children only since the end of the Government sponsored official  segregation policy?'

If we examined the reason we might be in a better position to solve the problem. We may not have been trying to educate everyone at the time but we certainly did a lot better with our secondary school results when we were officially segregated.

As someone who is clearly concerned about the situation he must surely have thought about the reason for the change at the time that it occurred. Why have we failed so badly since?
