Letter - Constructive dialogue will lead us to real solutions
I would like to express my appreciation to those who have submitted informative and compelling responses to my two articles about water conservation, printed in the Bermuda Sun [February 27 & March 6].
As a newly published writer, I welcome constructive critique and new information and I have given the comments due consideration. Furthermore, I feel that the greatest compliment a writer can receive is confirmation that his or her work has captured interest and stimulated discussion and debate. Allow me to extend a heartfelt thanks to those who have chosen to engage in this dialogue.
I do feel, however, that some of the responses to date, while well argued and supported in their own right, have overlooked my core argument - that is, the need to check rampant consumerism and seek sustainable solutions that do not look to nature as an infinite resource. I for one would hate to see the opportunity for constructive dialogue missed.
I hope that in the future this opportunity will not be lost and that together, through public discussion, we will generate momentum towards sustainable solutions to the myriad environmental and social challenges we face.
