MONDAY, MARCH 5: Luis Martins dominated the karting action on Sunday at Southside Raceway. Martins roared to three victories in the TAG Senior Class and moved past Stephen Corrado into third for the overall standings.
Corrado had a pretty good race day as well taking two seconds and a third as the pair gained on overall leaders David Barbosa and Patrick Ingham.
Martins picked up the maximum 80 points while Corrado had 66 points. Ingham had just 43 points while Barbosa garnered 58.
Ingham still has a solid advantage over Barbosa for first overall with 778 points, 39 more than his rival. Martins is 107 points adrift while Corrado has 666 points.
Shifter Class points leader Ben Savill did not race on Sunday leaving Barbosa to pick up victories in the first two heats and Scott Barnes, driving for Alexander Roque, to snake in for the win in Heat 3.
Savill has 566 points to lead the class with Alexander Roque in second at 492 followed by Barbosa (398) and Devon Durrant (291).
Juniors
The Bermuda Karting Association has to be pleased with nine karts competing in the Junior Clone Class for seven- to 12-year-olds.
Ryan Lopes, Owen DeCosta and Blake Horseman dominated the top three spots in each heat. DeCosta took the chequered flag in the first and third heats with Ryan Lopes breaking up the hat-trick with a victory in the second. Horseman had two seconds and a third as the three raced wheel to wheel on the course.
The other six drivers traded places up and down the table with Zinardi Daley, Gianni DeSilva, Derek Simons, Kemo Simons, Ryan Burgess and Zavier Smith all showing skills.
Ryan Lopes is the overall leader followed by DeCosta and Horseman.
Al Seymour Jr swept to three triumphs in the Junior Clone Class for 12- to 15-year-olds. Amber Lopes was second in all three heats while Jeahan Durrant debuted in the class.
Amber Lopes is the overall leader with Seymour second and Durrant third.
There was no racing for the Senior Clone Class and Andrew Cabral remains the overall leader with Robert DeCosta second.
The next race day is Sunday, March 18.
