FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16: The 38 teenagers announced yesterday as Junior Sports Stars have a high standard to live up to.

Besides being drug and crime free, being picked to be a part of the series could mean future sporting success.

The 1987 series featured such future champions like Shaun Goater, Terrance Armstrong, Jenny Smatt, Dean Minors, Albert Steede and Devon Bean just to name a few.

The cards are the effort of The Bermuda Sport Anti Doping Authority who have once again teamed with the Bermuda Police Service and the Department of Youth, Sport & Recreation to produce the set.

Oscar Lightbourne, interim Chair of Bermuda Sport Anti Doping Authority said “These young people are an eclectic mix who represents all the stakeholders that we serve.

“Each had to be nominated by their school, their sport; their parents and provide a drug free message.”

The cards are available now at schools and will remain for distribution until April.

The cards will also include three Hall of Fame legends triathlete Jim Butterfield, world champion bowler Hattianne Gilbert and former world triple jump champion Brian Wellman.
