WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13: Equestrian Jillian Terceira qualified Lakvels for the 2012 London Olympics.

She, along with Patrick Nisbett, are vying for the lone show jumper spot granted to Bermuda for the London Games.

Terceira has already reached the capability standard on her Pan Am Games mount Bernadien, but this success which was achieved at a show in Aalst, Belgium last weekend, and gives her another option should she be selected.

The final date for qualifying is June 16 , after which time certificates of capability will be submitted to the FEI for approval, and then a decision will be made by the Bermuda Equestrian Federation board whether Terceira or Nisbett is selected.

In 2008, the pair qualified for the Beijing Olympics with Nisbett being selected but unable to go because of an injury to his mount.

Terceira then represented Bermuda at the Games.

With rgeard to Terceira qualifying a second horse Michael Cherry, BEF president, said: “This is fantastic news emphasizing the fact that Bermuda’s riders are ready to challenge at the highest level in equestrian sport.”

Sailing All-Americans

Sailors Sean Bouchard and Joshua Greenslade were named as “Honourable All-Americans” after the just completed ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy National Championships in Austin, Texas.

Bouchard, a senior at Roger Williams University, and Greenslade, a junior at St Mary’s College of Maryland, both sailed for their respective schools at the National Championships.

Bouchard helped lead his school to a second place finish at the Coed Dinghy National Championships while Greenslade’s college were runners-up at the ICSA/APS Team Race National Championships.

A committee of coaches, who represent the seven conferences in the ICSA, selects the ICSA All-America Team.  For selecting the All-Americans the committee evaluates a competitor based on their competitive record in inter-conference competition as well as conference and national championships.

Youth Futsal

The second week of the Youth Futsal League saw six of the eight games decided either by one goal or go into penalty kicks to get a winner.

Dellwood Maroon had to go the distance to slip past Valencia in the Under-14 League at Dellwood Middle School, the home ground for all teams.

The two sides were knotted at three as the match had to be decided by penalty kicks with Maroon emerging a 3-1 one victor.

Things did not go all Maroon’s way on Saturday as Dellwood Blue beat them 4-3.

In the Under-12 league, Valencia #1 edged PHC #1 3-2, which was also the same score Social Club beat PHC #2.

Valencia #2 picked up a 5 to 3 win over Hamilton Parish #2 while Hamilton Parish #1 was the big winner with a 10 to 1 triumph over Dellwood.

In the Under-10s, Barcelona split its two contests with Hamilton Parish. It won one game 2-1 but lost the second 3-2.

West End Primary

Past Denton Hurdle winners met last Saturday when the school’s PTA held its second Alumni Walk & BBQ.

Cal Simons, a former PE teacher at West End Primary, made the presentation in which a plaque was unveiled listing all the school’s Denton Hurdle winners from 1987 to 2010.

The ceremony was attended by Carifta athletes Justin Donawa, a gold medalist in the triple jump and Jordan Bascome, who competed in the pentathlon.

All the past winners who attended were given a special medal with the school’s crest and the year they were nominated.
