MONDAY, MAY 16: James Jardine has stepped down as CEO of Appleby, the law firm announced today.

He retired on March 31 after 20 years with the company.

Peter Bubenzer is the new chairman, effective immediately.

He has been with Appleby since 1980 and became a partner in 1986.

He was elected to his new position on May 5.

His replacement as group managing partner — a post he has held since 2002 — is Michael O’Connell.

Gareth Russell, chief operating officer, and Scott Carter, chief financial officer, will split the group’s chief executive officer responsibilities.

Shaun Morris, Bermuda managing partner, said: “I am delighted that Peter has been elected chairmen of the group.

“As group managing partner, Peter has for some time played an integral role in the strategic development of the group and I am looking forward to working closely with him in his new role to cement our position as the world’s leading provider of offshore legal, fiduciary and administration services.”
