WEDNESDAY, OCT. 10: There’s plenty of video footage of Teresa Perozzi’s opponent Tori Nelson online.
But you’ll never catch the WBA champ checking them out.
Why?
Because Perozzi prefers to fight her own game and she says the other boxer could switch up their style.
The pair are set to tussle on Saturday night at the Fairmont Southampton Resort as the main attraction to the All or Nothing fight card.
Perozzi is putting her WBA middleweight belt on the line while Nelson is putting up her WIBA middleweight belt and the pair will also be battling for the WBC crown.
“I don’t look at video. My trainer (Troy Darrell) has. She could switch it up. I hope. If she’s studying what I’m doing… that doesn’t mean how I’m coming out. I’m not planning on fighting one way.”
Perozzi, who appears to be in the best shape of her career, added she plans on leaving it all in the ring.
“I’ve trained for everything. I expect her to come out aggressive and bring the fight to me and when I bring it to her, she’ll stand there and take it. It’s going to be a good fight.
“I don’t want to get psyched out or think one way and have her switching it up.”
Perozzi praised Darrell’s preparation of her for the fight.
“He’s been there and he’s trained way above my level. He has been trained by the best — Emile Griffith and Angelo Dundee. I have a very good work ethic and am very disciplined, but I need someone to push me and he’s the perfect person for that.
“He knows I’m receptive and will do whatever he tells me. I have 100 per cent confidence in what he tells me so we can’t go wrong.”
Perozzi also has a conditioning coach in Sally Wombwell.
“I haven’t had one before and I’ve had her for five months.”
She said the momentum for the fight has been slowing building.
Perozzi said at this point she is concentrating on the mental aspect of the fight.
“I am mentally envisioning what I’m going to do and execute it on the night. Troy helps me not just physically, but also mentally.
“I have so much confidence in what he’s telling me so now it’s just up to me to execute it in the ring.”
“It’s a lot of pressure for me, but I can handle it. This is what I wanted and this is what I’ve been waiting for.
“I am very grateful for Government and Bermuda being behind me on this.”
