It's Double Trouble for Gard

WEDNESDAY, SEP. 12:Only two teams emerged unscathed during the opening round of the Commercial Bowling League at Warwick Lanes.

The Colonial Braves blanked the Royal Gazette 4-0 and Gard Do It Best will also have to wait until next week to get its first points after being shutout by Double Trouble.

Billy Glasford has started the season strong with a 248 scratch game and 687 handicap series to lead all bowlers. Aesop Smith rolled a 224 scratch while Alvin Outerbridge also topped the 200 mark with a 209.

The mutli-talented Dennis Joell had a 640 handicap series while Jaime Ford rolled a 627.

Zina Jones barely missed out on a 200 but she topped all women with a 197. Corinne Durrant’s 189 was second while both Yvette Smith and Sylvia Richardson bowled 172s.

Jones had the high handicap series for women with a 650 followed by Roseann Buffy Mienzer (637) and Richardson (626).

Perfect Storm League

Two Flags downed BPS Blue Lanterns 15 to 5 to grab the early league lead. Both 10 Pins Down and Strikers won 14 games to start just one game off the pace.

Lew Furbert led all bowlers with a 257 game and 607 scratch series. David Abraham (226) and Alfie Wright (221) had the second and third high games. Donald Dane also reached the 600 series mark, but right on the nose. Quinton Hayward had the third high series with a 582.

Prinzine Bailey’s 183 and 452 was the best among the women. Laurie Simons used her 171 game as the foundation for her 449 series while Shelita White (168) and Miriam Caisey (420) also made the honours list.

Freisenbruch-Meyer league

The Invaders and Odd Balls asserted their dominance in the first week of bowling. The Invaders avoided being tented by Bermuda Pest Control and beat them 27 to 3 while Odd Balls downed Nifty Rollers by the same score.

Gregory ‘Ribs’ Simons had a 637 to edge Anthony ‘Wassy’ Smith by seven pins for the high series. Smith topped the high games list, though, as he rolled a 237 to Simons’ 225. Harry Bean Sr had the third high game with a 223 and Clyde ‘Tango’ Burgess had the third high series with a 616.

Kenneisha Simmons was the best woman with a 220 game and 586 series with Edna Mae Tuzo taking runner-up honours in both categories with a 197 and 551.

Peaches Perinchief had a 192 game while Juliette Smith had a 523 series.
