Italy wins beach tennis titles (Update 1)
SUNDAY, AUGUST 26: Three-time Bermuda Beach Tennis kings Alex Mingozzi and Matteo Marighella were dethroned today in a three-set thriller by countrymen Calbucci and Cappelletti at Horsehoe Beach
The new champs won the third set 6-2.
It was the fifth straight final for Mingozzi and Marighella. They defeated the Brazil’s Thales Santos and Marcus Ferreira 6-4, 6-3 in the semis.
Italy also won the Women’s title as Simona Banadona and Eva D'Elia defeated Americans Nicole Melch and Nadia Johnston 6-0, 6-3.
The Americans beat Paula Cortez and Flavia Muniz 3-6, 6-0, 7-5 to reach the final.
The other semi saw D'Elia and Bondona beat Brazil’s Tatiana Oliviera and Luciene Sapienza-Muro 6-1. 6-2.
The Italian pair beat Italian Michele Cappelletti and American Nicole Melch 6-3.
Winner of Mixed Amateur was Mike and Debbie Toyer who defeated Bermuda's Paul Towlson and American Tanya Baytor.
