Island firm launches first smartphone visitor guide

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29: An island company has launched a smartphone application to help tourists discover the very best of Bermuda.

Go Explore has launched ‘Go Explore Bermuda’ for iPhone and Android mobile applications.

It is Bermuda’s first all-inclusive mobile guide.

The free app, developed and built by US company BarZ Adventures, is a location-based multimedia electronic tour guide system.

It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Droid smartphone  systems.

New generation

Go Explore is a new company associated with The Ultra Concepts Group of Companies (UCG).

“This new generation of tourists expect information to be available on demand and in the palm of their hand,” said Michael Brangman, Ultra Concepts Group sales & development manager.

“This is the first of its kind to enter the market and we believe it will significantly contribute to the economic well-being of Bermudian businesses, while enhancing Bermuda’s tourism product.” 

It is predicted that 150 million Americans will own a smartphone by the end of 2011 (according to The Nielsen Company).

Go Explore believes the iPhone or Android OS markets will continue to grow.

The ‘Go Explore Bermuda’ app will direct tourists to all of Bermuda’s beaches and attractions, restaurants, hotels and nightlife.

Visitors can access local events, discounts and general information such as bus and ferry schedules. 

They can also explore Bermuda with video and audio tours, photos and GPS navigation.

Easy-to-follow directions guide users to their destination in the shortest possible time for an ‘enhanced’ visitor experience.

User-friendly

“‘Go Explore Bermuda’ is a wonderful travel app with a user-friendly interface that provides useful information to anyone who plans to visit the beautiful island of Bermuda,” said Marie Cornea, a Canadian tourist.

“Data roaming charges can be avoided altogether by downloading the tours before vacationing.

“The app is very comprehensive and it will
definitely help plan a great trip to Bermuda.”

Go Explore says it aims to promote tourism and to stimulate the economy by assisting to create jobs.
