A reinsurance company has donated $50,000 to help adults improve their employment prospects.

Ariel Reinsurance Company made the contribution to the Adult Education School.

AES has been committed to providing educational programmes, literacy and support services for more than 50 years.

Tom Hurst, CEO of Ariel Re, said: “Education is fundamental to the success of Bermudians and Bermuda. Bermudians from all walks of life should have access to programmes that will teach them to read, write and improve their prospects for employment regardless of their age, race, religion or economic status.

“That is what the Adult Education School offers and why we have decided to make this donation to further the school’s efforts.”

The AES helps young and mature adults who are seeking a second chance to achieve some educational qualification. Many of the learners are out of work.

The school prides itself on offering a safe haven for the learner, not only in terms of their academic needs but also their social and emotional needs.

The donation will be used to fund the Opportunity Scholarship, which offers financial aid for those who want to sign up for numeracy, literacy or GED schemes but lack the funds.

Mr. Hurst said: “By supporting the AES, we are supporting Bermuda’s community and helping provide educational opportunities to individuals seeking to improve themselves. It is a very worthy cause.”
