Forecasters predict it will be 761 nautical miles south-southeast of Bermuda around lunchtime on Sunday, when it is expected to have developed into a Category 3 hurricane.
Robert Giglio, a meteorologist at the Bermuda Weather Service, said: “There is a lot of uncertainty about where it will be exactly on Tuesday. It’s too early to make an estimate.
“We will be monitoring the storm very closely and we will have a much clearer picture in the next day or two.”
Mr Giglio added that one of the storm’s effects would be increasing southwesterly swells affecting the south shore by Tuesday.
Katia’s position at noon today was 1380 nautical miles southeast of Bermuda. It is currently listed as a Category 1 hurricane and is moving at 16 knots.
The storm is not listed as a threat to Bermuda at the moment.[[In-content Ad]]
