How our boys conquered the Americas
Victory in Canada was one of the first major targets for Gus Logie's team as they build towards the World Cup.
The win has been hailed as a fantastic team effort with all members of the squad contributing.
There were also some outstanding individual performances.
Lionel Cann was at his destructive best with the bat, Stephen Outerbridge and Kwame Tucker came to the party and Irving Romaine continued his good form.
With the ball George O'Brien was Bermuda's leading wicketkeeper while Hasan Durham and Saleem Mukuddem also performed well.
Here's a player-by-player look at the stats for the Bermuda squad during last week's tournament.
BATSMEN
Lionel Cann
Innings: 2
Total Runs: 175
Top Score: 139*
Average: N/A
Comments: Cann faced less than 100 balls in this tournament - yet he scored almost 200 runs.
He doesn't qualify for an average because he was not out in his two innings. Cann has always had the role of the 'finisher' for Bermuda. In this tournament he took it to a new level, showing he could have a role to play higher up the order in future.
Hitting five sixes in an over, as Cann did against Argentina, is an amazing feat at any level of the game.
Irving Romaine
Innings: 2
Total Runs: 151
Top Score: 101
Average: 75.5
Comments: Romaine is turning into Bermuda's Mr. Consistency. Relished the captaincy role, leading from the front at all times and was one of the best players in the tournament.
Scored his century against Canada, arguably Bermuda's strongest rival in the competition. Logie has now challenged him to turn those 50s and 60s into big hundreds on a more regular basis.
Stephen Outerbridge
Innings: 4
Total Runs: 126
Top Score: 96
Average: 31.5
Comments: Desperately unlucky to miss out on his first international century but can console himself with the fact that his patient knock of 96 against Cayman helped his country to their first Americas' Championship.
Won the 'fielder of the tournament' award and his form with the bat suggest Bermuda's search for an opener could be over.
Kwame Tucker
Innings: 4
Total Runs: 121
Top Score: 100*
Average: 40.3
Comments: Forget the rest of the tour - an unbeaten century from an opener is like gold dust for Bermuda right now.
The patience and application shown by Tucker and Outerbridge at the top of the order was highlighted by coach Logie as one of the successes of the tour. He also won 'keeper of the tournament'.
Janeiro Tucker
Innings: 3
Total Runs: 110
Top Score: 79
Average: 36.66
Comments: His knock of 79 from 89 balls against Argentina was a sign that he may be returning to his best.
For the most part he played a solid supporting role in the middle order, showing signs that the policy of allowing him to concentrate on his batting is paying off.
Clay Smith
Innings: 3
Total Runs: 53
Top Score: 38
Average: 26.5
Comments: After making a superb 84 in a losing cause in the Intercontinental Cup, Clay had less of a starring role in the Americas' win.
The most important thing for him, though, was to come through the tour injury free and get some runs on the board. All of Bermuda must be glad to see him back in his country's colours after such a long absence.
Saleem Mukuddem
Innings: 3
Total Runs: 31
Top Score: 18
Average: 15.5
Comments: Has suffered a bit of a lean spell with the bat and didn't star here. His numbers would have looked significantly better if we'd included the warm up one-day international against Canada where he scored an unbeaten 38. He also scored a half-century in the four-day game.
BOWLERS
George O'Brien
Overs: 26
Wickets: 7
Runs: 159
Average: 22.7
Economy Rate: 6.11
Comments: O'Brien is now such a key part of team Bermuda, it's hard to believe he has only been part of the national squad for a few months.
He was consistently among the wickets on this tour and must be one of the fastest bowlers in the Americas' right now. He went for quite a few runs, as did many of the frontline bowlers, but more than made up for it with his phenomenal strike rate.
Hasan Durham
Overs: 17.1
Wickets: 5
Runs: 69
Average: 13.8
Economy Rate: 4
Comments: Question marks over the legitimacy of his action aside, this was a successful tour for Durham. His bowling at the death against Canada was cited as one of the main reasons for that crucial win. He kept it reasonably tight and took wickets at crucial times.
Irving Romaine
Overs: 15.2
Wickets: 4
Runs: 54
Average: 13.5
Economy Rate: 3.54
Comments: It was no surprise that Irving Romaine was one of the top batsmen in the tournament. But one of the top bowlers?
Romaine could do no wrong in the America's Championship.
Saleem Mukuddem
Overs: 28
Wickets: 4
Runs: 110
Average: 27.5
Economy Rate: 3.93
Comments: Mukuddem's picked up four wickets in the tournament with his tidy seam bowling. More importantly he kept it tight on a tough surface for bowlers and showed he has the attitude and application to do well when the odds are against.
Dwayne Leverock
Overs: 31.3
Wickets: 2
Runs: 133
Average: 66.5
Economy Rate: 4.2
Comments: Steady rather than spectacular this time out, Leverock didn't pick up too many wickets. But he bowled more overs than anyone else in the team and had a good economy rate. The coach and the Bermuda public already know what he is capable of and he'll be back among the wickets soon.
Janeiro Tucker
Overs: 10
Wickets: 2
Runs: 62
Average: 31
Economy Rate: 6.2
Comments: Tucker played only a bit-part role with the ball but proved a successful 'partnership breaker'.
Kevin Hurdle
Overs: 23
Wickets: 1
Runs: 121
Average: 121
Economy Rate: 5.22
Comments: Returning to the side after a spell of club cricket in England, Hurdle was deployed as a key strike bowler. He picked up one wicket in the abandoned U.S. match.
Stefan Kelly
Overs: 10
Wickets: 1
Runs: 64
Average: 64
Economy Rate: 6.4
Comments: The young seamer played a fringe role in the team picking up a wicket against Argentina in a tough match for bowlers.
Malachi Jones
Overs: 12
Wickets: 1
Runs: 80
Average: 80
Economy Rate: 6.66
Comments: Jones notched up his first international wicket against Argentina and showed he can live in this company.
He wasn't Bermuda's main strike bowler and was expensive at times, but for a 17-year-old on his first tour he did well. There's obviously more to come from Jones.
NB: Only games that were part of the ICC Americas' World Cricket League Division One were included. Scores from the one-day-international and the ICC Intercontinental clash with Canada are not included in these statistics.[[In-content Ad]]
