TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1: Several hundred jobseekers today turned out for a hospitality industry jobs fair in Hamilton.
A long queue had already formed even before the doors had opened at the Hamilton Princess event.
Around 600 jobs were on offer at major hotels, including entry-level posts.
One man in his 30s, who asked not to be named, said: “I work in construction right now and I’m not sure I’ll have a job next month.
“I’ve got a family and I need some security for them, so I’m prepared to consider anything, even if it means less money than I make right now.”
Others said they were looking for part-time work to boost their income.
The Bermuda Hotels Association event was closed to the media.
BHA chief John Harvey said the decision came after a recent forum on the economy.
He said people who attended had felt uncomfortable with a media presence, so a decision was taken to hold the event behind closed doors.
