Homeless man remembered by pal
Mr. Palmer was discovered on Monday June 3 at 5.45am but died on Sunday morning in the intensive care unit of the King Edward Memorial VII Memorial Hospital.
Eugene Vorhees Trott, 42, of no fixed abode, appeared in court yesterday charged with Mr. Palmerâs murder.
Mr. Palmer, 47, had been attending Focus Counselling Services for the past three years but is thought to have been clean for at least the past month.
Raymond Evans, who also attends Focus, told the Bermuda Sun the fact Mr. Palmer was homeless, made him no less of a man.
Mr. Evans said: ãI knew Harry for a many years. He started coming to Focus about three years ago ÷ back then he was still an active user. But he stopped using about a month ago and was scheduled to attend Camp Spirit in April just gone.ä
Mr. Evans, 52, added: ãHarry used to help out a lot [at Focus]. He used to paint and clean up the premises ÷ he was productive. He was an easy-going person, he just didnât like any stupid talk.ä
The Salvation Armyâs executive director of community services, Major ÎChuckâ Eyre, said Mr. Palmer ãperiodicallyä visited the day care centre but did not stay at the Emergency Housing Complex. Mr. Evans said: ãI think he walked most nights.ä
Mr. Evans said he didnât know how Mr. Palmer came to be homeless. ãThere are a lot of things that cause people to be homeless,ä he said. ãThereâs no telling what caused Harry to be homeless, but itâs wrong for people to jump to conclusions that because you are homeless you are no good. Weâre all going to miss him.ä[[In-content Ad]]
