Here's how the election will play out, seat-by seat
FRIDAY, NOV. 9: Today I become Chris A Damus. Named after my uncle Nostradamus from my Scottish side. Brother to my great-great -grand father William Shame Us Wallace.
Bear with me while I shine up my crystal ball with some lemon juice and newspaper.
Ah... political predictions. I can answer with one or two words. But like in high school maths, let me show you my workings: 36 seats up for grabs, 19 to win. Give or take 30,000 voters going to the polls. We are under the Westminster system, which means whom ever gets the most seats, in this case 19 seats, wins.
A seat-by-seat breakdown
Constituency 1: St George’s North: Dame Jennifer Smith v Mayor Kenneth Bascome
Historically a tight run for the Dame, winning by less than 30 votes last time. She will pull it off. Besides nobody wants “de mayor putting in no toll bridge anyways”
PLP win
2. St George’s West: John Gibbons v Nandi Davis v Kim Swan.
Nice guys finish last in two-man race. Its gonna come down to Kim ‘n’ John in this one.
Not an OBA win. John better be knocking on them doors. Nevertheless if Kim wins he knows who is his family now.
3. St David’s: Lavitta Foggo vs. Gaylenne Cannonier
Foggo all the way. Gaylenne and her wolf cries about Foreign Cargo won’t resonate.
PLP win
4. St George’s South: Leroy bean v Suzanne Roberts-Holshouser
Having canvassed with Leroy I know it is going to be a close run — a very mixed constituency. Can’t call it
5. Hamilton East & 6. Hamilton West: Derek Burgess v Peter Barrett; Wayne Furbert v Donte Hunt
From Shelly Bay to Bailey’s bay — PLP all de way
7. Hamilton South: Sen. Diallo Rabain v Sylvan Richards
Diallo, son of the soil vs a parachuted candidate from Warwick. Diallo deserves this one, he has worked hard.
PLP win
8. Smith’s South: Wayne Perinchief v Cole Simons
UBP stronghold. UBP win
9. Smith’s West: Vance Campbell v Trevor Moniz
My home turf. It seems no one has seen much of Trevor Moniz. Having canvassed this entire area three times, I can say we have worked our butts off. In some neighbourhoods, people would not even open the door. So we know what time it is.
Vance deserves this, but you have some Trevor Moniz loyalists who will vote for him.
OBA win, possibly
10. Smith’s North: Patrice Minors v Sen Michael Dunkley
Dunkley will be giving away turkeys and chicken again this Xmas. Boundary changes have bolstered his chances so this will be tough for Min. Minors
Close call
11. Devonshire East: Neville Tyrell v Bob Richards
Bob the non-builder. Not from the area and not well liked with all his austerity and anti-civil service rants. Neville has got this. We Devonshire people don’t play and we don’t take kindly to disrespect.
PLP win
12. Devonshire South Central.Makai Dickerson v Craig Cannonier
Makai — prepare for the senate. This is OBA central. Craig was given this seat for a reason. If Pope Paul ran for PLP against Bob Madoff down there, Madoff would win.
OBA win
13. Devonshire North Central: Glenn Blakeney v Anthony Francis
A close one here; Min Blakeney needs to press the flesh a bit more. Francis has worked hard. Good guy, wrong team .
Close, but PLP win
14. Devonshire North West: Paula Cox v Glenn Smith
Nobody knows Glenn and nobody much likes the OBA round here.
PLP win
15. Pembroke East: Walter Roban v Scott Stewart
Likable chap but Pond Dogs, ain’t buying the song and dance.
PLP win
16. Pembroke East Central: Michael Weeks v Terry Hodgson
Terry who?
PLP win
17. Pembroke Central: Walton Brown v Andrew Simons
See you next election, Andrew.
PLP win
18. Pembroke West Central: David Burt v Nick Kempe
Nick who?
PLP win
19. Vince Ingham v Erwin Adderly v Jeanne Atherden
What a manage-a -trois of biblical proportions
Brother v. Sister. Schoolmate v school mate.
Too close to call
20. Pembroke South West: Marcus Jones v (TBA)
Fairlylands huh? See you in the Senate Mr Jones.
OBA win
21. Pembroke South East: Everybody v Rolfe Commisiong
Rolfe don’t fret, Curve people and Middletown people know BS when they see it.
PLP win
22. Paget East: Dawn Simmons v Grant Gibbons
OBA win
23. Paget West: Darius Tucker v Patricia Gordon-Pamplin
OBA win
24. Warwick South East: Lawrence Scott v Alexis Swan
Lawrence Scott has been sowing his political seeds for over a decade.
PLP win
25. Warwick North East: Dale Butler v Marc Pettingill
Tough call but Butler will prevail.
PLP win
26. Warwick South Central: Mark Bean v Ras Mykkal
Here is a poem: ‘D Ras tried to move too fast;
‘Bean dropped some lyrics and cut his ___’
PLP win
27. Warwick North Central: David Burch v Wayne Scott
Scott seemingly has worked hard. But de Colonel is, well, he is the Colonel.
PLP win
28. Warwick West: Jonathan Smith v Jeff Sousa
Tough one. OBA, possibly
29. Southampton East: Zane Desilva v Jon Brunson
Stick to Buzz, bud
PLP win
30. Southampton East Central: Stephen Todd v Leah Scott
Cant call it
31. Southampton West Central: Scott Simmons v Shawn Crockwell v Charlie swan
Can’ t call this (Scott got lyrics though)
32. Southampton West: Randy Horton v Rodney (Romney) Smith
Not even wasting my time with this.
PLP win
33-36 — Sandys constituencies
We run God’s Country.
PLP wins
Final tally: PLP 23, OBA 7, too close to call 6
Summary. The OBA is the UBP and UBP will be rejected again.
The OBA’s supporters have spent 18 months calling PLP supporters, sheep, KoolAid drinkers and now Taliban. Now they want us vote for them? Never! Week after week, lie after lie exposed.
Is Bermuda in challenging times? Yes. But is every issue the fault of the PLP?
The electorate know who has provided them with; affordable housing, FutureCare, day care, Government jobs, EEZ, Heritage Wharf and so many more social safety nets.
OBA invest in media hype and slanted polls. The PLP invests in the Bermudian People.
Polls ‘n’ media cannot vote. The Bermudian People vote.
It will be close but the PLP will Stand Strong Again.
